Courses for the Student Teacher
PGCE science field courses for only £15
The BES, in collaboration with the Field Studies Council (FSC), provides two-day courses at Field Studies Council centres for PGCE science students for both primary and secondary teaching. The aim is to equip future science teachers with knowledge, expertise, and with the other vital ingredient, enthusiasm, to teach science out-of-doors. You don't need to have done your science degree in ecology or even another biological discipline. Chemists and physicists go home keen to teach some ecology too!
These are particularly aimed at student science teachers who do not have experience of field work as part of their PGCE course and will be limited to 5 students from each institution.

Specialist course grants
These grants are particularly useful to newly qualified ecologists who are still looking for their first job. They enable you to go on short BES-approved course at a field study centre and they usually focus on the identification of a specific such as grasses or mosses.
They might not appeal to most PGCE students but could be of interest to someone thinking of looking for a job teaching in a field study centre.
